Their methodologies in security analysis are the foundation upon which modern value investing was built. Simply put, value investors seek to exploit the opportunities presented when businesses are priced, through their stock, at a discount to their intrinsic value. The philosophy of value investing holds that buying a business at a discount to its intrinsic value provides the investor with a margin of safety. Investors prosper as intrinsic values rise and as valuation discounts shrink.
